Feral Hog Hunting From a Helicopter
Do you want to buzz through droves of hogs, just 15 feet off the ground, at highway speeds? Texas is the place to be! We’ll supply the machine guns, you bring the trigger finger. The experience begins before dawn, with a thorough safety course, covering techniques and methods for safely operating firearms in and around an aircraft. The hunt starts bright and early, with lift-off at sunrise. Every hunter is outfitted with a semi-automatic AR-15, equipped with a holographic red dot sight and ammunition. For those looking to kick it up a notch, upgrade to fully automatic machine guns and get the full Texas experience. Once day breaks, it’s “game on!”.
Skids Up!
We maximize your hunt experience by putting you in the air at daybreak when the hogs are most active. HeliBacon’s experienced pilots know just where to find them and will take you on a ride like no other, cruising at highway speeds just feet above the ground, across over 300,000+ acres of prime Texas ranchland and farmland. Custom fuel trailers enable quick and mobile refueling on-site at any of our hunt locations, which keeps the engines warm and the lead flying without interruption, ensuring maximum efficiency and an uninterrupted hunting experience.

Hog Depredation Program In Action
Thanks to the passing of HB 716, HeliBacon may provide local, out-of-state, and international guests the means to hunt and kill feral hogs from a helicopter. There is a feral hog problem in Texas, and we invite you to take part in preserving our beautiful state. With that said, please remember that we conduct depredation hunts on active farms and ranches, and we take every effort to respect the land, our neighbors, and their property at all times.
No Texas Hunting License Required
Texas changed the law in 2019 to no longer require a hunting license to hunt feral hogs in the state, even for non-residents, while on private property with landowner authorization. Additionally, no hunting license is required to hunt depredating coyotes on private property with landowner authorization. See the non-game species section of the Texas Parks and Wildlife website for more information. HeliBacon holds a valid and current Aerial Wildlife Management Permit, and we are able to document hunters on the TPWD Aerial Wildlife Management Portal using a state ID such as a driver’s license or a passport for our international clients. Experience the thrill of Helicopter Hog Hunting trips in Texas like never before!

What to Expect: Your Texas Hog Hunting Adventure
Before Dawn: Safety First
Your adventure begins at Coulter Field Airfield in Bryan, Texas, about an hour before sunrise. We know you’ll be wide awake with anticipation, and we’re ready to channel that energy into the safest, most thrilling hunt of your life.
The Mandatory Safety Course (1 Hour)
Every hunter participates in our comprehensive safety briefing designed by our NRA-certified Chief Range Safety Officer. Here’s what we cover:
- Firearm safety fundamentals and proper handling techniques
- Safe operations in and around helicopters
- The unique aspects of shooting from a moving aircraft
- 360-degree awareness and muzzle discipline
- Communication procedures and crew chief commands
- Loading, reloading, and clearing procedures
- Emergency protocols
You’ll have plenty of time for questions and hands-on demonstrations. We want you comfortable and confident before takeoff. No prior firearms experience required – just bring humility, a willingness to listen and learn, and a positive attitude focused on safety.
Sunrise: Game On
As the first light breaks over Texas, it’s time to load up. You’ll be outfitted with:
- Semi-automatic AR-15 with holographic red dot sight (or full-auto upgrade)
- 10 fully loaded magazines per flight hour
- Eye protection and communication headset
- Safety harness securing you to the aircraft
Our Bell 212 HP helicopter, a twin-engine powerhouse and the largest aircraft in the helicopter hog hunting industry, lifts off with you, up to 6 other hunters, a skilled crew chief, and our expert pilot at the controls.
The Hunt: 15 Feet Off the Ground at Highway Speed
Picture this: You’re flying just 15 feet above the Texas landscape at highway speeds, wind rushing through the open doors, scanning prime ranchland and farmland for movement below. Our pilots know every tree line, crop field, river valley, and watering spot across our 300,000+ acres of hunting territory.
When hogs are spotted, the aircraft pitches back, slows, and positions you for the perfect shot. Your crew chief’s voice comes through your headset: “Clear to fire.”
The AR-15 steadies in your hands. Red dot on target. Squeeze the trigger. The hogs start to drop. The adrenaline rush is indescribable as you reload and engage again. This is the coolest thing you’ve ever done.
What You’ll See:
- Solitary boars rooting through fields
- Coyotes darting through brush
- Sounders – groups of 3-4 sows with 8-16 piglets
- Texas wildlife in their natural habitat from a perspective few ever experience
The Process:
We maximize your hunt by flying when hogs are most active. Our custom mobile fuel trailers allow quick refueling on-site without interrupting the action. We fly for one hour, land to refuel and reload magazines, then head back up for another hour of hunting. No downtime, just pure adrenaline-fueled action.
Our pilots excel at low-level flying and know exactly where to find hogs. Chase Roberts, our co-founder and chief pilot, has been flying helicopters since 2010 with thousands of hours logged, 95% of it in low-level operations specifically for helicopter hog hunting.
After the Hunt: Relive the Action
Back on the ground, the adrenaline is still pumping. If you purchased the video package, our four-camera recording system captured every moment from multiple angles – both the gunner’s field of view and the action inside the aircraft. You’ll have footage to relive and share for years to come.
Pro Tip from Our Hunters: Many clients bring personal GoPros with head or chest mounts to capture even more angles. One hunter wore Meta glasses and got spectacular videos that married perfectly with our crew footage. Don’t skip the video upgrade – trust us, you’ll want the replay.
Meet Your Crew: The Team Behind the Thrill
Chris Britt – CEO & Co-Founder
When Texas passed HB 716 authorizing commercial helicopter hog hunting in 2012, Chris saw an opportunity to combine his lifelong passion for firearms and helicopters into something truly special. As an NRA-certified Chief Range Safety Officer and seasoned entrepreneur, Chris brings both business expertise and an unwavering commitment to safety.
Chris’s Role: Behind-the-scenes operations including marketing, accounting, PR, finance, and safety program design.
What Chris Loves Most About HeliBacon: “It’s so much cool in one package. It’s an educational and entertaining adventure, featuring machine guns and helicopters, while still being truly beneficial to the economy and environment. What we do is important. Our clients are awesome people, we have great relationships with our landowners, and my business partner Chase is top notch. This is one of those dream businesses where you can really love your work.”
Chase Roberts – Co-Founder, Chief Pilot & Firearm Specialist
Chase is the man who makes it all happen. A walking encyclopedia of firearm and helicopter knowledge, Chase has been flying since 2010 and is expertly trained in the demanding art of low-level flying. He builds and maintains our arsenal, keeps our Bell 212 in immaculate condition, and pilots your hunt with precision that makes clients feel like the aircraft is a natural extension of his body.
Chase’s Role: Pilot, firearms builder and maintainer, equipment specialist, and HeliBacon’s workhorse
What Chase Loves Most About HeliBacon: “Usually people don’t get to see a firearm go from conception, through to the end of its life, but here they’re being used so much that it’s a lot of what I like most about my job. When things require maintenance or we need a new gun for the arsenal, I’m tasked with the challenge. I grew up a problem solver. Sometimes, it can be a pain, but I love it.”

"This was by far the coolest thing I've ever done in my life!" The staff were very professional and cool. They provided an excellent fun and safe environment, while exposing you to a lot of fun. The flight was very smooth the entire time and felt as if you were just floating on air. Plenty of pigs for the taking! Hands down, would go back in the future if I can! I highly recommend HeliBacon!
Helicopter Hog Hunting FAQs
About the Hunt
We schedule hunts from mid-January through the end of October, flying Wednesday through Saturday. The winter months (mid-January to late March) offer cooler temperatures and bare trees for better visibility, though rain and fog can cause rescheduling. Hogs are active year-round, so spring, summer, and fall hunts are also highly successful.
Every hunter gets a semi-automatic AR-15 equipped with holographic red dot optics and 10 fully loaded magazines per flight hour. Want more firepower? Upgrade to full-auto machine guns including submachine guns, carbines, and battle rifles. Calibers include 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, 5.56, and 7.62×51.
There’s no bag limit! You’re only limited by available flight time and hog sightings. It’s common to see solitary boars, coyotes, and sounders (groups of 3-4 sows with 8-16 piglets). Some hunters take down 30+ hogs in a single hunt.
Safety comes first. If weather prevents flying, we’ll reschedule to the nearest convenient date for all parties. All sales are final, but weather cancellations always result in rescheduling, not forfeiture.

About the Experience
Up to 6 gunners can fly together in our Bell 212 helicopter, with 3 shooters on each side. We also accommodate single hunters and smaller groups by combining parties. Larger groups can be divided over multiple days with various activities to keep everyone entertained.
Dress for the season and the open-door helicopter environment:
- Summer: Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable closed-toe shoes
- Winter: Warm jacket, beanie or watch cap, shooting gloves, thermal under-layers, wind-resistant outer shell
- Year-round: No open-toed shoes, slip-ons, or sandals (well-fitting cowboy boots are fine)
Absolutely! Our hunters consistently say it’s worth every penny. We record with four cameras capturing both the gunner’s field of view and in-cabin action from multiple angles. Many clients also bring personal GoPros for additional footage. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience – you’ll want to relive it.
We’re in Bryan/College Station, Texas – halfway between Houston and Austin. About 90 minutes from Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). Safety courses and hunts launch from Coulter Field Airfield at 6120 East State Hwy 21, Bryan, TX 77808.
Yes! We welcome international guests. You don’t need a hunting license – just bring your passport for identification, and you’re ready to hunt. English fluency is required for safety communication.
About Night Vision Hunts
Our guide meets you around sunset for equipment familiarization and a safety briefing. We use thermal imaging to scan fields from vehicles, drive to within 150 yards, then stalk on foot staying downwind. We often get within 25-40 yards completely undetected. Hunts last about 4 hours and typically wrap up between 11:30 PM and 2:00 AM.
Everything you need: suppressed short-barrel AR-15s chambered in 7.62×39, current-generation thermal rifle scopes, Gen 3 white phosphorus night vision goggles, and infrared laser designators. Just bring long sleeves, long pants, and rubber boots for muddy terrain near watering spots.

My son and I received our hunt as a Christmas present, and it was incredible. Chase put us on top of the hogs, and we had a fun time learning about shooting from the air. I liked the full auto option we had on the guns, I'd definitely do that again. Although the weather didn't cooperate with us early in the day, by about noon there were 33 fewer hogs in the great State of Texas. I'd recommend the hunt to anyone wanting an adventure, and whose not afraid to hang out the side of a helicopter 30 feet off the ground going 100 MPH chasing hogs. Hee haw!!
